ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The second Mithridatic War lasted from 83 to 81 BC. Contrary to the peace of Dardanus, which concluded the first Mithidatic War, Mithridates VI held on to a part of Cappadocia. This gave an opportunity to Lucius Licinius Murena, who had been left as governor of Asia by Sulla, to attack the king of Pontus. Eager for an easy triumph Murena attacked Mithridates. The war, however, went badly for the Romans and in 81 BC Sulla ordered Murena to desist from attacking a friend and ally of Rome. |
