Early in 987 the exiled doukas of Mesopotamia Bardas Skleros returned from the caliphate of Baghdad to the Byzantine lands and rebelled against Emperor Basil II. The rebellion broke out in the area of Melitene in the spring of 987, lasted approximately two years and spread over large areas of Asia Minor. It ended in October of 989, following an agreement between the rebel and the emperor. |
